Hi Jeanne- I recognize that glow! And I recognize the dilemma that you described in this and your following blog about focus in a plein air painting. I spent a couple hours last evening sitting on a boat painting. I was staring right into the light sparkling on the water as the sun dropped lower in the sky. [Yes, I could hear my mother's voice saying, "Never look right into the sun" but I was wearing sunglasses!!!] All kinds of yellows were flickering on the edges of the light bouncing off the blue water. The shadowed greens on the far bank seemed to be shimmering with subtle color too. I layered oranges and purples back there. My painting was a crazy mess with dashes of yellows, blues, whites, and oranges pinks and purples. But it did offer me the opportunity to really look and try and record what I was seeing. And as you said, it will remind me later of the lived visceral experience of that time and place. Thankyou for your lovely blog!
